My Review:
Roman Kincaid has hit a wall, he’ performed nonstop for the last four years and he needs a break. When he picks up a guitar the words and music has stopped, he’s lost his love of performing and creating. His manager has refused to listen to him when Roman tells him that enough is enough, so he does the only thing he can think of: he runs away. He gets in his car and starts to drive, no real destination in mind, just somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of tours, fans throwing themselves at him, and the stage lights bearing down on him. When he takes a break in a little town of Rainbow Rock and finds himself in the small Kachina Café, he gets more than just the sweet tasting bites of the best pie he’s ever tried; he gets to meet Lottie Beale.
Lottie Beale owns Kachina Café she enjoys cooking and baking, and loves feeding the locals and the tourists that find their way into her little place. However, she’s blown away when the well-known country-western singer and movie star, Roman Kincaid, walks into her place. For more than one reason does this stun her. Everything she’s made for herself in the last three years could be uprooted if he recognizes her. Lottie Beale has a secret of her own, she also ran away from fame and fortune and the demands of Hollywood. Lottie Beale is also known as Charlotte Mayes, a famous actress known for several childhood roles, and she’s not going to go back anytime soon.
Love has an interesting way of sneaking up on people and catching them when they least expect it. When fears and dreams collide how do you make a relationship work when two people want different things out of life? Where do you give and where do you take? I liked this sweet contemporary romance. Full of interesting historical facts intermingled with people learning to trust, and others learning to give when they are used to others falling at their feet giving them anything they could ever dream of. By running away, Roman was able to find his love of music through his romance with Lottie. Lottie was able to discover that fame and fortune doesn’t always come with a price and there are still genuinely good people out there, if only you have the courage to open up and trust. I enjoyed their story and liked the people of Rainbow Rock, each having their own struggles and everyone learning to forgive and trust again.
Roman’s Holiday by Susan Aylworth
Excerpt
Lottie broke in. “So? What now? You know my secret identity and I know yours. Shall we just go our own ways—no harm, no foul?”
He considered that. “I’m not sure. I mean, what did Batman and Catwoman do when they discovered each other’s secret identities?”
Lottie wrinkled her nose. “Try to kill each other?”
“Um, you’re right. Bad example. So whaddya think we should do?” A few interesting ideas had already occurred to Roman, but, for the moment at least, he chose to keep those to himself. “Are you thinking of mutually assured destruction? You tell my secret, I tell yours?”
“I don’t know,” Lottie said, “I think we can do better than that.”
“What then?”
“Hmmm…” She was giving him a different look now—speculative, perhaps, even conspiratorial. “It depends.”
