A Kiss From Kringle (Novella) (Frosty’s Snowmen Book 2)

A Kiss From Kringle

Leah Ward is very protective of her sister and her niece. So when her sister’s first day of work rolls around and her niece is sick Leah steps in and tries to keep her head low and blend in so the bosses won’t catch that she’s filling in. But the only thing that she’s filling in is her sister’s too small and tight elf suit, catching the eye of one of the bosses. Chris Kringle knows that the elf in front of him is one of the girls he’s hired, suspicious and a bit aroused by the sexy beauty he investigates a little further. Chris believes in Christmas magic and love at first sight and with Leah he gets a little of both he just has to get her to believe with him.

This short Novella is perfect for a quick getaway from your hustle and bustle. It was fun to see Leah squirm and try to explain why she’s there instead of her sister and see how she fought her attraction to the good looking Mr. Kringle. The story did move quite quickly, and you do need to be a believer in love at first sight to appreciate that romance that blossoms quickly in less than a day between Leah and Chris. It was a little bit of a stretch for me to see Chris fall so quickly, but that’s the joy of short stories, they don’t need to be realistic they just need to make me smile.

Wonderfully Wicked (The Dreamcaster Series) (Volume 1)

Wonderfully Wicked

Kalila Montgomery is anything but normal, she’s a dreamcaster. As a dreamcaster, Kalila’s nightmares take shape and come to life. She’s forced to live away from others, because her nightmares tend to bring harm to those that have the misfortune of sleeping anywhere near her. She’s content with having one friend, who just happens to be a prophetess who accepts Kalila and her dreams. Sometimes Kalila’s dreams also give her knowledge of what’s going to happen in the future and one of those dreams tells her to look out for a man that will be the death of her, literally. Unfortunately for her, that man has targeted her to be his escape from the V’alkara brotherhood.

Lydon v’al Endrain and his brotherhood are at the mercy of dreamcasters. Unable to survive with nightmares, they depend on the nightmares that people like Kalila supply, they feed on their dreams. Lydon is not a normal V’alkara, he doesn’t sit back being content with taking orders from Master White. He knows that there are other ways to “cure” the V’alkara’s weakness and he’s ready to branch out on his own. He just needs to convince Kalila that she’s better off with him, and the best way to do that is to kidnap her. Kalila is anything but ready to trust the man that she has visions of drinking her blood, she’s feisty, sassy, and will use whatever means necessary to fight for her freedom, even if that means unleashing her worst nightmares. Kalila and Lydon must learn to trust each other and learn to listen to their hearts if they are to beat the brotherhood and be free to live their lives, with or without Kalila’s dreams to aid them.

To say there is a lot going on in this book is putting it mildly. C.J. Burright, the author, has a lot of information and material that she must pass on to the reader to help them understand Kalila’s and Lydon’s world, and it’s not an easy task. Because there was so much going on, and I didn’t feel like I had a lot of information to go off of, I felt lost for several chapters. I found myself getting frustrated and putting the book down, I kept forcing myself to pick it up and read a few more pages. It wasn’t until I reached about Chapter 9, that I started to understand and appreciate the book. I usually don’t give a book that long to get me hooked, but I knew I didn’t want to give up on it. I’m glad I didn’t. The characters finally grew on me once I appreciated who they were and what abilities they had. Once I figured out how the brotherhood really depended on the dreamcasters and the real trouble that Kalila was in I couldn’t put the book down. I think this is a book I would read again, now that I know what’s going on and I think it would help me appreciate the beginning of the book a lot more. I wish there were a better way to write the book where the reader could understand what was going on without losing the action. This is a great book once you know what’s going on and how all the characters fall into place. My advice, stick with it and give it time, Lydon and Kalila grow on you.

Scarred Hearts (Sand Hill Romance Book 1)

Scarred Hearts

Nathan Longley is a gunfighter, and he is used to being on his own and answering to no one. He has been hired to track down the Bowler Gang, who murdered and raped a bank owner’s daughter, when things go bad and Nathan ends up taking a chest full of bullets. Claire is used to taking in strays and fixing them, so when Nathan Longley stumbles onto her property full of bullet holes and half dead, Claire does what she does best and fixes more than just Nathan’s wounds. Claire has taken in an orphaned baby boy, an orphaned fox, and an orphaned bear cub and now she can add a cynical hardened man to her growing list of people that need her love and care. She is a tough woman and survived a horrible accident leaving her scarred and often publicly ridiculed. This doesn’t stop her from caring for everyone around her even if it means that she could be hurt protecting those that need her. When Nathan wakes up in Claire’s home, and hears her singing he had no idea that he life was about to change and he’s about to find that there is love in his heart and he will find that he will do anything to protect the new family that has wedged their way into his life.

I was introduced to the Sand Hill Romance series when I read the second book, which could be read alone, but realized that I really wanted to hear Claire’s story. Billi Tiner is amazing at writing a beautiful romance. The men of Sand Hill are the men of many women’s dreams. They know how to take care and protect their women. In my mind, they are some of the most swoon worthy gentleman. I can’t wait to read Wounded Hearts, the 3rd book.

Walk Through Fire (Chaos)

Walk Through Fire

Since Millie Cross split up with the love her life, Logan “High” Judd, she has been living life from day to day. She’s set up a successful business and has created a beautiful home.  Every day is the same old thing and she’s content with her life and she won’t complain.  Maybe she’ll even venture out and take a Pilates class to add to her non-existent excitement.  Anyone that knew Millie would be surprised how different her life was before Logan and how it is now, because Logan was in a biker gang and it wasn’t just any gang, it was Chaos.  Millie lived for the excitement and the cut off shorts, tank tops, and parties.  Now Millie lived for her job and her name brand sweaters, sexy boots, and pencil skirts.  On her way home, Millie’s predictable life changed and it changed big, because when she stopped for food the sound of a very distinct male voice brought memories from 20 years ago flooding back with a vengeance, High was standing in line in front of her talking to someone on the phone about kids and finding a new home.  High was back, and he had kids. It was too much for Millie, she couldn’t leave fast enough.

In the safety of her walls Millie decided that enough time had passed and she needed to apologize to High for leaving him so many years ago, but with people like High and his brothers in Chaos, it wasn’t going to be that easy.  When Millie found High, the reunion was anything but pleasant, all the hate and anger that High had built up over two decades came spilling out, and he wasn’t about to let Millie leave without knowing how much she had hurt him.  Life had changed them both, and Millie would never be able to tell High the real reason she left him, the real reason that she had walked through fire for him.  Unless Logan would drop the hate and open up to her, which he wasn’t about to let happen, he would never open back up to her and the heart ache that was sure to follow.  If the boys in Chaos had a choice, they would do whatever it took to protect High.  It was up to the women in the gang, they knew what was best for the couple, and they just had to make the boys see it.

At first when I started reading, I had to adjust to the author’s writing and I had to get familiar with Millie.  This can be said for a lot of books, you have to get in the mood and know who your characters are.  However, that being said, as I read I began to get to know Millie I felt so bad for her, she was hurting and High wouldn’t give her the time of day.  Kristen Ashley knew how to hook me, and I couldn’t put the book down.  It was hot and heavy between Millie and High, they both know what they are doing in the bedroom. There were times when I did stumble over some of the dialogue whenever the Chaos brotherhood was in the picture, because it was more biker talk, something this woman isn’t used to.  I loved how the women all banded together with a mission and were out to reunite the two lovers.  High was so rough and mean in the beginning I wanted him to drown in a lake, but as time healed old wounds he was a teddy bear to Millie. Kristen did great job writing and there were several lines that caught my attention and I loved and even stopped to read to my husband.  Even though the book was extremely hot and steamy, there was a lot of truth that was spoken and can be used when trying to make things work in a relationship.  I haven’t stopped talking to my friends about this book; because it’s such a great read I want them to enjoy it as well.  I’ll be reading more from Kristen in the future, that’s for sure.

A Tale of Three Cities

A Tale of Three Cities

Kristy fled New York City, escaping the abusive clutches of her husband and leaving an innocent man (well at least he’s innocent of kidnapping her) in prison–it’s hard to feel sorry for a man that is the leader of a mafia, and no one is going to shed a tear when he just happens to be convicted of her fake kidnapping. With millions to help her create a new identity; she starts a life on a huge estate in Scotland as Penny. She lives there with the man of her dreams, her lover, her soul mate and companion: Z. They live peacefully enjoying their life together, learning to step out of their comfort zones and whisper their love for each other. However, their peaceful life is about to be turned upside down and their love is about to be challenged. Melissa Chisholm is a bit of romantic and could use a little help in the money department. When she sees an ad offering $1 Million dollar reward for any information leading to the discovery of a missing wife, Melissa can’t help but interfere. She wants nothing more than to help a grieving husband find his beautiful wife, collecting the money would just be a bonus. Unfortunately, she doesn’t realize that true nature of Penny’s husband, Michael Bradley, until it’s too late. Penny and Z must work together to secure their safety and the life they have made for themselves in Scotland, can they do this without losing the love they have for each other?

I didn’t read the first novel, Greater Expectations, but I was not lost when I started reading A Tale of Three Cities, it can easily stand on its own. The author did an amazing job building the characters and each of them has their own strong identity, they are all important to the novel. The suspense that is perceptible in each page keeps you turning pages as quickly as you can read them. Many of the characters are not who they say they are the twist and turns that leave you guessing just add to the excitement. Alexander McCabe does an amazing job tying everything together and has an amazing talent for writing a complicated story line that is still easy to follow.

Second Chance Hearts (Sand Hill Romance Book 2)

Second Chance Hearts

Rachel Somerfield was living at Whitman’s Home for Orphaned Girls when she found love.  Matthew Compton swept her off her feet and promised to love her, marry her and take her away from the orphanage and New York City.  She couldn’t believe how lucky she was to find a man that loved her and wanted to marry her as soon as he could get her down the aisle.  They were going to start a new life as husband and wife and he would be able to take care of them with his new banking job.  However, Rachel’s luck didn’t hold out for long.  Rachel’s dream man turned into a complete nightmare and Rachel was on her own on the streets of Kansas City with nowhere to turn except the local brothel which promised her a job. Working as a housekeeper, Rachel made a name for herself with the ladies.  She earned their respect and the admiration, they want to help her succeed and get out of Kansas City.   With their assistance, she was able to get a teaching job in Sand Hill.  Rachel’s luck was about to change, because the people of Sand Hill were amazing and full of love for the single woman that stepped out of the carriage.

Claire and Mary were not strangers to hardship or hard work and they had made a good life for their families in Sand Hill.  When they met the frightened young woman who answered their ad, they knew it was their responsibility to take her in and help her find her way.  Even if it meant marrying her off as quickly as they could to the town’s sheriff, Chance Scott.  A whirlwind courtship began between Chance and Rachel and it looked like love was about to blossom.  Before the day came when Chance and Rachel would say their “I Do’s” Matthew Compton entered Rachel’s life once more.  Rachel’s and Chance’s life became a threatening game of cat and mouse.

Being new to Billi Tiner’s writing, I was a little apprehensive when I started reading Second Chance Hearts.  I didn’t know what to expect with the writing style, the content, or the characters.  To say that I fell in love from the start is an understatement.  Rachel is so young, naïve and in love and you just watch her take her life one step at a time, new to the world outside of the orphanage.  You can’t help but fall in love with her and the people of Sand Hill.  Sand Hill is a small tight knit community that stands by and helps a young woman in need without the usual judgments that come with a small town.   Chance Scott is a decent man ready to step in and marry a stranger just so he can help her, being a perfect gentleman.  Claire has a story of her own, and she takes it upon herself to bring those in that struggle and help them survive and be strong.  I can’t say enough good things about this book.  Not only was the romance so sweet, but then you are hit with suspense and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.  What a remarkable book, I’m so glad that I was introduced to Billi Tiner.  I can’t wait to read Scarred Hearts, the first book in this series.
